What we do

OUR WORK

Partnering with communities.

Working to optimize and maximize agricultural practices and products that result in high-quality non-perishable items that can be exported to markets.

Working to encourage non-farming entrepreneurial endeavors that create new jobs and income sources for local workers.

Developing leaders in coffee communities who fully embrace the economic multiplier philosophy from a Kingdom perspective.

Filling gaps in available resources for efforts (education, healthcare, social service, church partnerships) that enhance the well-being of communities.

MAKING IMPACT

Standing together

Coffee Growing Community chooses to identify and partner with a handful of communities at a time so that we have the space to build and enjoy genuine, trusting relationships that last. It is out of these relationships that understanding of, and meaningful solutions to, real issues take place. Because of our love for Christ and our gratitude for His renewal in our lives, we long to invest ourselves and resources in ways that shower individuals, families and communities with genuine love and hope that bear economic, spiritual and social fruit.

FEATURED PARTNERSHIP

Our Work in Sierra Norte de Puebla

Coffee Growing Community is currently in partnership with the good people in the green, mountainous, Sierra Norte de Puebla region of Mexico, where many small-scale coffee farms are scattered across the mountains surrounding the village of Chicontla, Puebla, Mexico.

For years, the people of this region have been struggling economically, socially and spiritually due to the effects of of low coffee yields, the inability to process and market their own coffee and the lack of viable economic alternatives. Two of many devastating results are the teen-pregnancy and teen-suicide rates which, per capita, are among the highest in all of Mexico.

Coffee Growing Community is leading initiatives on several fronts in the Sierra Norte, all of which are supported by donations from individuals, families and churches who share our vision. Projects are carefully selected and implemented with the common good of the entire community in mind. Goals include: creating and stimulating local economies in sustainable ways; developing leadership through education, talent and vision; caring for holistic needs of children; sharing the Gospel of renewal and restoration; and instilling community responsibility for community vitality.

FEATURED PARTNERSHIP

Our Work in Kenya

Coffee farmers in Kenya have only recently been free to process and sell their coffee directly, instead of using brokers as middlemen. Coffee Growing Community is partnering with Evan Murage and family to establish Tevan Coffee Factory in Kirinyaga County, Kenya.  Coffee Growing Community granted the funds in July, 2025 to build the washing station that is central to Tevan’s coffee processing. With the washing station in place, Tevan will be able to process its own coffee cherries as well as those of neighboring farmers. By offering to process coffee for other farmers at a reasonable price and through the ongoing funding of local life-enhancing projects, Tevan leadership will have the ability to bring the love of God to those in and around the communities of Kagumo and Kerugoya in tangible ways.

OUR PROCESS

Coffee Development

Coffee, an iconic beverage within the lives of many people, has a story. A story that transcends far beyond beans in a bag. Coffee is the sole source of income for many across the globe. The process of growing the coffee plant is not one for the faint-hearted.

We believe that those who grow and produce great coffee should be able to earn a decent living. With holistic renewal of coffee-reliant communities in mind, we aim to connect farmers with the training and means necessary to provide superb coffee that earns the highest possible price through direct-market trading.

Coffee Growing Community works with farmers to optimize farming and production practices. We also assist in identifying outlets for coffee that pay appropriate prices and that reduce stages in the sales cycle. You can partner with us today to help these communities in big ways. To get started check out the many stages of coffee development below.

OUR PROCESS

Coffee Processing

Part of the challenge in self-sustainability in coffee reliant communities is helping them control their product – their coffee – throughout the entire process. Controlling everything from seedling to the roaster-ready bean allows for the most profit, and the best outcome for the local growers.

In the past, family growers and co-ops, like the Ixtlacalli co-op in Chicontla, have only grown the coffee and then sold the ripe, picked cherries to a beneficio or processor at a very low price. By returning portions of processing back into the local grower’s hands, they’re able to control quality and consistency, as well as earn a higher margin on their product. Coffee Growing Community is partnering local co-ops to purchase equipment to allow them to capture and control the entire process so that quality and market value are optimized.

At the same time, through shared resources, hundreds of thousands of older coffee plants are being replaced with new, more vigorous varieties to insure the best health of the plants and quality of beans.

A final step in preparing farmers to sell their coffee at the highest possible value is training them to taste their coffee, understand the flavor profiles within their product and the changes and improvements needed to make it consistently extraordinary coffee wherever it is roasted and served. CGC introduces farmers to cupping practices, coffee market standards/requirements and conventional coffee trade knowledge.
