As the economic realities of living in the rural coffee growing regions became more bleak in recent generations, there has been an ever-increasing exodus of young leaders and talent out of the region, to areas with more opportunity.
Unfortunately, this cycle is very hard to break. As young leaders take their much needed skills and abilities elsewhere, it perpetuates the very issues that spurred their exodus.
Building a better future together
Often, to change a cycle, it takes a stimulus from outside the cycle. Coffee Growing Community serves as this stimulus. By offering scholarships and internships to young leaders and students in exchange for their commitment to stay in their home community, we are helping to reverse the exodus by keeping future leaders at home. Donors to CGC provide full college scholarships to these young leaders as well as basic living expenses for a period of time after they graduate. In return they fill roles in the community that put their education and talent to use for the common good of the community.
